Mirabel (Encanto)

A bedtime story about courage, family, and the magic inside us all

Once upon a time, in a small village nestled in the mountains, there was a glowing candle that never went out. Its magic was so powerful that it created a place full of wonder… an Encanto!

The Madrigal family lived there in a magical house they called Casita.

Each family member had been blessed with a special gift:

Julieta could heal people with her food.

Luisa had superhuman strength.

Isabela could make flowers grow.

Antonio could talk to animals.

And Bruno could see the future.

But no one talked about Bruno. He had been missing for many years.

When Mirabel turned five, she wore her special party dress and stood beside her Abuela (grandmother), eager to find out what her magical gift would be.

But when Mirabel touched the glowing doorknob to receive her power… the magic vanished!

She was the only Madrigal without a gift. That made her feel like she wasn’t as special as the rest of her family.

Years later, when Mirabel was 15, strange things began to happen. Cracks appeared in the walls, and the house started to shake.

“The house is in danger!” — Mirabel cried.

She had an idea: if she could find out what was causing the cracks, maybe she could fix it — and prove she was special in her own way.

Mirabel followed the cracks all the way to the magical candle. Her sister Luisa told her that Bruno had left because of a vision he had — perhaps it had something to do with the cracks.

Determined, Mirabel set out to find Bruno’s hidden cave of visions.

After climbing endless stairs, she finally entered his mysterious room. There, she found broken pieces of his last prophecy.

Mirabel put the pieces together like a puzzle. It showed a broken Casita… and right in the center stood Mirabel.

What did it mean?

Meanwhile, the cracks were spreading fast. Time was running out.

Inside the walls, Mirabel discovered a secret passage — and found Bruno! He had been living there the whole time.

She asked him to look into the future again. Maybe it would help save the magic and the house.

Hand in hand, they saw a vision of a crumbling Casita, a family losing their powers… and Mirabel at the center of it all.

Then… a shining figure appeared. It was Isabela.

“Hug her,” Bruno said. “It might show you the way.”

Mirabel didn’t get along with Isabela — she always seemed annoyingly perfect. But Isabela confessed that she never felt good enough for Abuela either.

In that moment, the candle’s flame glowed brighter.

But Abuela Alma was angry about the chaos. She told Mirabel that the magic began to fade the day Mirabel didn’t receive a gift.

That’s when Mirabel realized the truth: the magic was fading because no one in the family felt good enough anymore — they were all trying too hard to be perfect.

Cracks grew deeper. The candle was nearly melted. Everyone rushed to save it, but even their powers were disappearing.

In one final act of love, Casita protected Mirabel… and then — POOF — the candle went out.

The magic was gone. Casita had fallen to pieces. Encanto trembled. Everything was lost.

Feeling hopeless, Mirabel ran away into the mountains.

Near a quiet river, Abuela found her. It was the same river where Encanto had been born and where Abuelo Pedro, Abuela’s husband, had been lost.

Abuela shared her story of that night long ago — how she had prayed for a miracle. The glowing flame had scared away the enemies and protected her and her children.

Losing Abuelo had broken her heart — something no magic could heal.

From that day, Abuela believed the family had to be strong and perfect to stay safe. But now, she understood that fear had taken over her heart.

“We received a miracle because of you,” — Mirabel said gently.

That helped Abuela feel hope again.

“Mi vida, you are the miracle,” she whispered to her granddaughter.

Just then, Bruno arrived. “I feel like I lost something important,” he said.

“Come here,” said Mirabel. And together, the three of them walked back home.

Everyone was surprised — Abuela walking proudly with Mirabel and Bruno! In that moment, the family realized something powerful: what made them special wasn’t their magical powers… it was their love for each other.

They worked together to rebuild Casita, one brick at a time. All that was missing was one final touch: a new doorknob.

When Mirabel placed it on the door, Casita came back to life — and the magic of Encanto was restored!

The family’s gifts returned too.

But most importantly, Mirabel finally felt her true worth. She was the heart of the family — the one who held everyone together.

That day, they all understood: the real miracle lives inside each of us — in our courage to be ourselves, in the love we share, and in the way we forgive.

And even without magic powers, Mirabel became the guardian of the family’s heart.

From then on, the Madrigals lived happily, in a home full of color, laughter, and love.
