Grandma Sissi’s Lost Letter

Bedtime Story for Little Dreamers

Once upon a time, back when people still wrote letters by hand, there was a very sweet grandmother named Grandma Sissi. She loved writing little notes filled with love and kind words.

One day, she decided to send a special letter to her granddaughter, Maria Helena, who lived in the city of Florianópolis.

The letter was placed in the mailbox and soon ended up in the bag of a very cheerful postman. He loved walking down the streets whistling happy tunes. But as he admired the birds in the sky, he didn’t notice when a tiny letter slipped out of his bag and fell onto the sidewalk.

Alone and scared, the little letter didn’t know how to get to its destination. It feared it would be lost forever. Feeling sad and confused, it began to cry... and cried so much that it formed a tiny river of tears!

That’s when a curious hornero bird (a little house-building bird) landed right beside the letter.

— Why are you crying, little letter? — asked the bird kindly.

— I fell from the postman’s bag, and now I don’t know how to get home, — answered the letter with a trembling voice.

— Maybe I can read your address! — said the bird with hope.

But when he looked closely, he scratched his head.

— Oops… I haven’t learned to read yet…

The letter cried a bit more, but the little bird didn’t give up.

— Wait here! I’ll call my friend Mouse. He’s very clever!

Soon he returned with a kind mouse who rubbed his eyes and said:

— Oh no, I forgot my glasses! I can’t read a thing!

The letter sighed again, but just then the hornero had another idea:

— Hold on! Let’s call Lady Jojo-beetle. She has great eyesight!

In a flash, Lady Jojo-beetle arrived with her polka-dot glasses and read the address out loud:

— Maria Helena, Florianópolis!

The letter smiled with relief.

— Is it very far? — she asked.

— Not too far, — replied the bird. — I’ll give you a ride!

And off they went, flying over rooftops, trees, and fluffy clouds, until they spotted the postman. He looked worried as he realized there was a hole in his bag!

The hornero bird landed on his shoulder and chirped:

— Mr. Postman, I think you dropped this!

The postman smiled with great relief and hurried straight to Maria Helena’s house.

When he knocked on the door, she opened it herself, her eyes sparkling with joy.

The letter read:

“Hi, my love!

I’m writing to tell you I’ll be there soon to celebrate your birthday.

Kisses from Grandma Sissi.”

💌 And just like that, the little letter found its way — with the help of new friends and a whole lot of love along the way.
